Maintaining Dignity with Respect
Residents are always encouraged to look their best since this significantly impacts their self image. Staff offers as much assistance as needed getting dressed each day so residents start their day with dignity. The hairdresser comes to the Home once each week to keep residents looking their best.
While residents have access to showers, most take advantage of the whirlpool bath on the nursing unit. In addition to a leisurely soak, the nursing staff is available to provide a back rub.
We have a licensed physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech therapist, dietician, pharmacy consultant and doctors available as needed. Doolittle Home also partners with a hospice organization so residents spend their final days as comfortable as possible in their familiar surroundings. Hospice services are made available at the request of the family.
Doolittle staff has experience in assisting residents and their families deal with change – whether that is the move to Doolittle Home, the recent loss of a spouse or other loved one, or changes in health over time. Staff provides outstanding support to residents who have special, unique needs and help them adjust to life at Doolittle Home.
Staff closely monitors medication and diet of all residents. Many residents show improved health after the arrival at Doolittle due to the increased attention to proper medication and diet.
Residents and their families fondly consider Doolittle their home.
According to President Joanne Pratt, “We set the standard in Massachusetts for quality care. We are proud of the staff and the volunteer board of trustees who make this possible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Family members know that their loved ones are receiving the best possible care which gives them peace of mind.”
”It is hard to have a parent anywhere but at home; but Doolittle Home is truly the next best thing. As mother’s health problems developed, she moved to the nursing unit. It made such a difference that she already knew the staff and the facility so she was able to adjust quickly.” — Donna, about her mother Ann, a former Doolittle Home resident
”The staff always treats me as if I were the most important person here.” — Jane, daughter of a Doolittle Home resident
